Henry Robert Humphrey, 98, of Shepherdsville, KY, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. He was born on September 21, 1919 to the late John and Fannie Sue Humphrey in Sturgis, KY. He was a beloved husband, a treasured father "daddy", and an adored grandfather, "grandpa daddy", and a great grandfather. He was a proud Navy World War II veteran, serving from June 1942 until October 1945. He served as a second class gunners mate on the USS LST 662, SS Raphael Semmes, SS Richard M. Johnson, and the Eisenhower Aircraft Carrier He saw action in both the European and Pacific theatres. His travels during the war time included England, New Guinea, and a 90 mile hike into Egypt. Bob was a retired employee of International Harvester, a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and the VFW Post #5710. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Butler, Rose Moman, and Martha Railey. He is survived by his wife of over 49 years, Betty Humphrey; his children, Sandra Burnett, Jeff Humphrey (Pat), and Terri McNichols (Patrick); along with 5 Grandchildren & 3 Great Grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 5285 Hwy 44, Shepherdsville, KY, with burial to follow in Brookland Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home, Mt. Washington, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
