I am sure my grandmother is very pleased with the dignity and care given for her final goodbye. The celebration was uplifting and flawless and my family and I will be forever grateful.

Melvin M. Porter, 96, of Mt. Washington, returned to the Lord on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at his home. He was the owner of the old Western Auto Store in Mt. Washington, a farmer, builder, and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Thomas and Lora Crenshaw Porter; and two siblings, Chester Nolan Porter (Alice) and Elizabeth Louise Cornell ( William Robert). Melvin is survived by his wife, Dorthy Dean Porter; one son Murrell Porter (Judy); a daughter, Bonnie Lee Roof; along with six grandchildren, Jonathan Kalewski, Micah David Redman (Wendy), James Kevin Porter (Krista), Kelly Douglas Porter (Rachel), Kimberly Ann Carlson (Eric), and Kristina Diane Matthews (Jason); nine great grandchildren, Madison Redman, Kade Michael, Kara LeeAnn, Karis Rachel, Klacey Geneva, and Katherine Elizabeth Porter, Kaden Hunter, Kaiya Isabella, and Kooper Alexander Matthews; and two great-great grandchildren, Kailee and Rendon Thomas Porter. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Mt. Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Memorial gifts in Mr. Porter's memory are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
