Rafon Alton Hilbert

Rafon Alton Hilbert, 80, of Mt. Washington, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Norton Women's and Children's Hospital.  He was a member of Mount Washington First Assembly of God and a former employee of Vulcan Material and the old Central Garage and Montgomery Chevrolet.  Rafon loved playing his guitar and singing gospel music.  He loved his community and all his friends at Dairy Queen and McDonalds.  He was preceded in death by a son, Rafon A. Hilbert;  a daughter, Judy Clark;  along with several brothers and sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife, Geraline Waldridge Hilbert;  three sons, Douglas Lutes (June), Greg (Stephanie) and Allen (Shonna) Hilbert;  four daughters, Jeannie Sanders (Tim), Lavonna Peyton (Curtis), Doris Marie Poynter (Scotty), and Kathleen Cannon (Keith);  along with fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington First Assembly of God with burial to follow in Mount Washington Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.


I am so sorry for your loss. We have known the Hilbert family for a very long time and Rafon will be sadly missed. We will be thinking of you all and saying a prayer for all of you. Rest easy, Rafon.
Such a wonderful man who truly had a love for God and others. He was always ready for a hug and a word of encouragement. Our family loved seeing him hanging out at his McDonalds. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Mr Hilbert’s passing. I will miss running into him around town. It was always a blessing to talk to him.
